Cement and terrazzo tile require simple but regular cleaning and they will retain their beauty and handmade charm. The tiles must be moped on a regular basis using clean water and a neutral cleaning solution. 

NEVER USE AN ACID BASED CLEANING SOLUTION.

These solutions might damage the surface of the tile. We recommend Aqua Mix Concentrated Stone and Tile Cleaner which is a neutral cleaner and when used regularly will prevent soap scum build-up and hard water deposits.  Cement, like marble and other natural stone, is a porous material that will absorb liquid over time. To keep these tiles looking their best, do not let any type of liquid sit on the tile surface for any length of time. Wipe up spills immediately and always dry the cement tiles completely with a clean cloth. 

Cement and terrazzo tile in high traffic areas, or outdoors, may require refinishing to maintain their luster. Like natural stone, cement and terrazzo tile can be refinished with a fine grit (e.g. 600) wet-dry sandpaper to remove a micro top layer to reveal a fresh layer of pigment below the surface.  This must be done be a professional. Sealer should be re-applied to a clean tile after resurfacing. 

RESEALING WILL NEED TO BE DONE PERIODICALLY.

Resealing your cement or terrazzo tile will need to be done periodically as recommended by your installer and dictated by the level of use. For all sealing and general maintenance, Desire recommends Agua Mix Sealer’s Choice Gold sealer, Fila Satin or Matte Look Protective Wax and for maintenance Agua Mix Concentrated Stone and Tile Cleaner. 

CLEANING DO’s and DON’T’s

• Daily vacuum cement tiles to remove dirt and debris.
• Weekly wash cement tiles with mild pH-neutral soap to buff away any dried residue before it sets.
• Periodically, as use demands, wax the tiles. 
• Again, never use an acid-based cleaning solution or bleach on your cement tiles. Acids can eat the sealer and damage the surface of the tile.
• Never use harsh detergents because they will leave a residue on the tile that is difficult to clean and can attract dirt and debris.
